We Drive ... A Sustainable Future

We deliver innovative and meaningful solutions to help restaurants and our business create a more sustainable, ethical and responsible future. Every day. All over the world.
Running great restaurants involves a focus on environmentally-responsible practices ‒ a critical priority for Martin Brower and our customers. We go far beyond simply delivering products: we share and collaborate on best practices to reduce our collective impact on the planet and accelerate our sustainability progress through science based targets.

Our Science Based Targets

Sustainability Roadmap

Reducing Our Carbon Footprint

By 2030, we’re committed to reduce our absolute operations emissions (Scope 1 & 2) by 50%, aligned to a 1.5C science-based target. Building on our progress so far, we are collaborating with the Science Based Targets Initiative, established by the world's leading environmental organizations, on this decade-long effort. By putting ever more powerful measures in place to drive down our greenhouse gas emissions, we hope to effect real progress in addressing the urgent challenges of global warming and climate change.

  • Improving Our Fleet

We keep pace with a rapidly evolving industry by continually investing in new equipment designed with advanced technology offering highest efficiency and lowest carbon emissions.
  • Sourcing Renewable Energy

Technological advances allow us to monitor and report energy consumption in real time, for maximum efficiency. Importantly, our teams continually evaluate and purchase alternative, sustainable sources of electricity ‒ solar, wind and hydro power ‒ whenever possible.
  • Choosing Alternative Fuels

Reinforcing our commitment to cleaner, renewable fuels, we use natural gas, biodiesel or electric alternatives to power our fleet.
  • Upgrading Our Facilities

The key to achieving ambitious sustainability targets is our considerable investment in the most energy-efficient lighting and cooling technology for our facilities, as well as an ongoing focus on standardizing systems and best practices.
  • Maximizing Operational Efficiencies

We ensure every part of our operation performs at the highest levels with initiatives that include advanced network optimization, sophisticated route planning technology, reverse logistics and backhauling to maximize every inch of space in our delivery vehicles ... and more.
  • Partnering with Industry Leaders

We collaborate with leading third party industry experts to continually explore and develop new solutions to enhance sustainability and reduce our shared carbon footprint, with innovations that range from piloting electric trucks to running our facilities with renewable energy.
  • McDonald’s Scale for Good Award

Martin Brower were the proud recipients of the Global McDonald’s Scale for Good Award 2020 for our sustainability leadership in leveraging our scale and reach to drive transformational change, innovative solutions and improvements in sustainable sourcing.
  • CDP Recognition

In 2020, we were named a Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) Supplier Engagement Leader, recognized for working with our partners across the supply chain to reduce emissions worldwide. We are proud to have earned a place on the CDP’s Supplier Engagement Leader board, joining nearly 400 companies around the globe dedicated to climate action.

Forging a Low Carbon Future

The transformation required to significantly reduce our overall carbon footprint has been thoroughly and systematically planned, based on viable targets approved by the Science Based Targets Initiative. From operations and fleet to distribution and logistics, Martin Brower teams are inspired by the singular goal of reducing GHG emissions by 50% in 2030.

“We are headed in precisely the right direction, armed with a roadmap to navigate our transition to a low-carbon environment in the communities we serve around the globe.”

- Danny Fahey, Director, Global Operational Excellence and Sustainability

Zero Waste to Landfill

We are proud to report that our global goal of Zero Waste to Landfill has been achieved, in accordance with international standards requiring recovery of at least 90% of non-hazardous waste materials. We’ll continue to focus on eliminating, reusing or recycling waste, and converting any remaining waste into energy when locally available. Our approach encompasses single stream and organic recycling, mesophilic and anaerobic digestion plants, and partnerships with food banks and alternative energy providers.

Reverse Logistics

A key initiative to support our customer’s efforts to reduce their waste sent to landfills is Reverse Logistics. We have incorporated the collection of a range of waste streams from restaurants into our delivery process returning these to our facilities via reverse logistics for onward recycling into biofuel, recycled paper products and energy. These value-added services reduce both our own and our customers’ impact on the environment as well as driving efficiencies and reducing delivery costs.

In the UK, our well-established reverse logistics program collects several waste streams from our customers’ restaurants including “back-of-house” waste such as used cooking oil, grease trough waste and cardboard in addition to food waste.
